Existing gas pump displays will have to be updated because some of them won't show that many digits in the price per gallon.
I was actually working at Quiklube/Texaco station in summer of 1980 in Portland, Oregon when we had to get our pumps replaced when it went over .99 cents a gallon. We let a lot of people buy gas "on sale" because we couldn't charge the correct price while we waited for the new pumps. Talk about supply chain disruption - the entire country basically all buying new pumps at once.
