The key is not that Intel is incapable of putting
dram on a microprocessor but that Intel currently
gains some 75 percent of semiconductor industry
profits while using approximately one percent of
the silicon area (memory cells take the other 99
percent). Since this is a time of crisis for the
old processor architectures, it is possible for a
dram company to come in and capture some of Intel's
succulent margins.
