Psion Delays Bluetooth Product Launch

JULY 12, 2001

LONDON (AP) -- Handheld computer maker Psion PLC delayed the launch of
highly anticipated products powered by an advanced technology called Bluetooth
and cut 250 jobs, or about 2 percent of its overall work force.

Psion said it is shifting its focus to wireless industrial and enterprise markets as
its consumer products division, Psion Digital, continues to struggle amid a
marketplace glut of handheld computers and cellular phones.

The London-based company said the job cuts from its work force of 1,300 people
are part of a restructuring at Psion Digital that will cost 29 million pounds ($40.6
million). The streamlining comes just four months after the division was created
in a merger of three consumer-related divisions.
