We don't have to accept genital mutilation, and we can try to change the minds of those involved in it- but saying our way is "better" rarely wins an argument (as we've seen on SI, "better" tends to be rather personal.)

It's important also to keep in mind that "cultures" are not seamless wholes. What appears to be "culture" is often the product of power relations within. On the genital mutilation question, in particular, it could well be that many women don't approve but don't have the power of resistance. Or feel highly ambivalent about it. Etc. Ditto for other such practices.

Not infrequently, what passes for culture are the reports from the elders, the powerful, the leaders, etc. And what it misses are the internal struggles.
