Not necessarily true. Back when YARC Systems was selling 25 MHz Am29K based coprocessor boards using overclocked 16 MHz processors, AMD was very good about replacing processors that failed catastrophically. Of course, they would only replace processors that would not even operate at their 16 MHz rated spec, and only with another 16 MHz Am29K. My guess is that, while AMD would be under no legal obligation, the purchaser of such a system could get a replacement from AMD, but it would not be warranted to operate at 1.8 GHz.
