Great feedback on Inspiron, PW. If you like it I'm sure it is good. Agree completely about Dell support. They have been a great company to work with. Very reassuring that there are companies that get it together and maintain a high standard of excellence. (I don't own the stock!)

RE: chip speed, I don't really know what chip speed I need. The PII 400 box I am using now has been a joy, no doubt about it. This was my switch to wintel after a number of years of being a Mac person, and going from a G3 to this Dell 400 was not a disappointment, though I have always felt a certain base level of aggravation with Microsoft for selling buggy software. I was in the Anything But Microsoft camp for all these years. And I still get itchy when I get these wizards popping up to tell me it looks like I'm writing a letter. Uh, thanks, Bill.

I am actually interested in feedback on the relationship of chip speed to overall processing operations. I run a lot of realtime streaming software for trading so speed is an issue and handling high volumes of data is too. If I thought the P4 1.5ghz was a big leap forward in processing speed, I'd go for it. Any thoughts?

best,

Rick
