Good point about the MMX strategy. I didn't really understand the significance until you pointed it out. What do you mean by "it completes the marketing circle." Yes, "Intel Inside" was on the hardware. And "MMX enabled" (or something like that) can appear alongside with "Win 95 compatible" on the boxes of software.

What finally happened to the MMX term? Did Intel succeed in trademarking it?

Both Groves and Gates have talked about 'growing the market' and that certainly will be important (to both companies). I tend to see things the way Bill Gates does: that things like voice recognition and multi-media will continue to fuel the need for higher and higher performance machines. We also need more bandwidth; more bandwidth will really unleash multi-media.

I'm looking forward to the new variants of PCs in the year's ahead. Gateway is a good case in point with their Destination product.
