you arguments are valid yet you are forgetting about cost of monopoly to oems. Compaq and some other manufactureers showed in the past that they are willing to pay the premium if needed for longer term benefits. It did not pay off for compaq but it proves the point, I think.
Speed advantages may or may not be important. If k6 would be able to match klamath that would be a victory for amd. But it looks like it is better than Klamath. It is also looks like that amd might come out with 300MHz chip earlier than intel.
I am aware of the intels attempt to shift to higher margins and if intel would manage to make up the earnings from that then it would be great for intel. Yet as I pointed out in the prior post that even the higher than expected earnings would not be enough to justify intels price if they would loose monopoly status.
AMD and CYRX, meanwhile, are making thier move on high-margins multi-processor servers as I have posted in one of my prior posts. And both amd and cyrx are ahead of intel in high-margins laptops.

ps I have to admit that intel has one thing that they potentially could use against amd and that is close to 0 margin. Both amd and cyrx are short on capital and that move would eliminate any farther
development funds. But given the current intel shareholders attitude I do not think that intel would be able to do that. And if intel are to do that I would then pick up some really cheap intel shares.
