OT government spending:

I worked for state government most of my life and retired early with a state pension. I had many different jobs, but was primarily a planner and was state Director of several offices. I know that most state workers were overworked and underpaid because of the illusion state workers do not work.

The worst offenses was underpaid and overworked personnel; and especially the work expected from financial officers. Most financial officers were doing the work of two people. We went through so many financial offers it was not funny. And I saw it drive more than one person to tears.

I saw very little waste in our state government and much much more often I saw people being required to do two people's work just to keep their job because our legislature has the same attitude many have (a blind dislike of government spending without knowing of what that speak). It is a visceral response for most people. They cannot quantify their beliefs.

People want social services, but they do not want to pay for them. People want social services like, firefighters, policemen, hospitals and ambulances and paramedics when they have a heart attack or are injured somehow, and welfare systems of one sort or another, but do not want to pay for them.

The pork put in govererment spending by lobbyists paid by the rich and corporations far outweighs any waste I ever saw in state government.

The amount of money we have spent on the Iraq war alone could have paid for 10's of thousands of kids to get four year college degrees. This would have strengthened our democracy and economy.

The amount of subsidies (we just gave big oil 5 billion dollars-like they need subsidies right now)) and tax breaks given to the rich and corporations and actually written into legislation by lobbyists could have put 10's of thousands more kids through college and balanced the budget.

Between the Iraq war, tax cuts to the rich and corporations and lobbyist pork we are talking about roughly two trillion dollars during bush's reign alone.

Government waste on employees is nothing compared to corporate welfare programs. Corporations 30 years ago paid 4% tax on earnings on average. Now 1/2 of corporations pay no tax every other year. And the average tax on corporations and the rich is the lowest ever in recent times.

So we are running large deficits because of the lost revenue through tax cuts to the rich and corporations ACCORDING TO THE NON PARTISON CONGRESSIONAL BUDGET OFFICE!

Supplyside economics has been totally decreditied. Reagan and bush sr added three trillion dollars to our deficit in just 12 years by cutting taxes because supplyside economics said deficits were supposed to fall through an attendent growth in the economy. Deficits never fell one red cent in the entire twelve years.

We are supposed to be paying down our deficit during times of plenty so we can borrow during lean times.

What our we doing running record deficits during times of plenty??

Does anyone really think the poor have the same lobbying power as the rich and corporations do? That is the logic here!!
