Putin Expresses Condolences to American People

MOSCOW (Reuters) - Russian President Vladimir Putin expressed deep sympathy to the people of the United States on Tuesday after two planes crashed into the World Trade Center, calling it a "terrorist act, this terrible tragedy."

The Kremlin quoted spokesman Alexei Gromov as saying that Putin was informed immediately of the attacks.
