German Chancellor Gerhard Schroeder said on Thursday Germany was ready to help the United States with the havoc caused by Hurricane Katrina, offering water treatment facilities and mobile shelters. "The citizens of the United States should know that in such a situation, Germany is firmly at their side and will do everything it can to organize whatever help we can provide as far as it is desired," he said.
