Brad and all...Is this old news? Maybe not... Jean May 25, 1999 Paris - SAGEM, a designer and manufacturer of automatic fingerprint identification systems, and STMicroelectronics (ST), a semiconductor manufacturer, have announced that the two companies will work together to develop biometric solutions that will allow sophisticated automatic fingerprint identification to be applied in high volume consumer applications. The cooperation will combine ST's proprietary TouchChip technology for fingerprint capture with SAGEM's expertise in processing the captured fingerprint. Both companies feel that the rapid spread of electronic commerce, the Internet and mobile communications will create a fast-growing demand for a low cost yet highly reliable means of verifying personal identity as a means of controlling access to equipment such as PCs, mobile phones and cars.
