Peter, Yes, Kennedy's blessing opened the door to the finances necessary to get our men on the moon.

You can bet all you have, that the Russians kept everything they did regarding the space race hidden from ordinary Russian citizens, and the rest of the world. I think we had better scientists, and technicians, than Russia could only dream about. No doubt that they cheated at every opportunity.

There is belief in our space community, that the Russians lost many cosmonauts that the rest of the world was never informed about, and many blow ups of equipment.
