USA is the only country where reasonably free markets exist. Other countries such as those in Asia and Europe have too much baggage and feudal history to allow the smooth transition to it.

The USA is blessed with great many natural resources and human resources (thanx to immigration).

Where she lacks those, she can arm twist the other countries to provide her at the price she deems reasonable (e.g. crude oil). But the USA is not different and as its population increases to the extent where the internally generated resources (jobs, etc) are not sufficient then it will become more dependent on those non-market economies to pick up the slack in creating such resources.

USA economy is one third of the world economy and is currently needing the other 2/3rds to bail out of a tough situation. In the future this dependence can only increase with an ever increasing consumption by the American consumers and their feeling of entitlement to such and the govt. be it republican or democrat wanting to satisfy those needs at any cost.
