Tenchusatsu,
Thanks so much for your reply, and especially so quickly. :)
<<Docpaul, there isn't much public info revealed about the 845 and 870 chipsets. It stands to reason that the 845 chipset is similar to the 850 chipset. The only major difference between the two chipsets is the memory interface. Both probably use the same firmware hub, which would also be the same firmware hub as the 820, 815, and 840. Can't say anything about the 870, however.>>
This was my "assumption" and hope.. it would make sense, seeing as how they've used the same system for all of the 8xx products.
<<1) Did you really mean the firmware hub, or do you actually mean the ICH/ICH2 south bridge?>>
I met the firmware hub.. I look on with interest regarding Intel's moves, but I actually invest in a company that makes flash memory products, SSTI.. some of the company's highest profit margins have been designing flash for the BIOS on 8xx chipsets.
<<2) What kind of "forward research" are you doing on Intel's chipsets?>>
Good chipsets for Intel = better market penetration for the processors.. looking back in retrospect, think about what the BX chipset did for them.. it looks like the i845/DDR might very well be a winner for them, and I think it'll spell future sales of the P4 processor.
Thanks again for your time..
