Registry changes ...
Many people are reluctant to edit the registry, and for a good reason too: REGEDIT makes changes instantly, offers no undo and gives no warnings. Each would be reason enough to approach the task with hesitation, but when all three join together, run!
Another approach to registry editing.
First, back up your registry. Use System Information / Tools / Registry checker. Once checked, you'll be given the opportunity of backing-up your registry. Click the Yes button.
Second, copy the key before deletions or changes. In REGEDIT, highlight key, click Registry / Export key and save the key in a .REG file. You can always import this file later, returning this key to original.
Third, try to make changes using .REG files. It's fairly easy to create a .REG file from a key, edit the changes in the .REG file, and re-import the key. Your left with a trail to follow if things go wrong, as well as a huge advantage in setting them right again -- you know exactly what was done.
Also, changes made using .REG files can be shared among other systems. Many sites make .REG files available for download. For me, I can save registry changes I make between system back-ups, and if I need to restore my system, registry changes made since the last back-up are not lost.
