I am suprised this has not already happended, especially since a chance to buy them on the cheap just occurred, obtaining the rights to their patents would provide an opportunity to generate a stream of future revenue, the acquiring company would obtain a group of very talented design engineers (which could be the most important reason), and the acquisition may be immediately accretive to earnings.

Your scenario seems pretty realistic. I also just saw that POWI is a component of the Red Herring 250 Portfolio, so there is no doubt that it is being watched. Someone may still be planning on acquiring POWI, but possibly waiting to see how well TinySwitch is received, how the case against MOT goes, or both. If all goes well for POWI, most of the risk in acquiring them will have been eliminated, and the benefits in doing so will be much more clearly defined.

POWI doesn't last a year before being acquired, thats my guess (but thats all that it is). What would everyone do if that were to occur, I think that is a question worth consideration? I have not yet had to deal with this situation, so any insight would be appreciated.
