But, I am not sure how/why it is better protected. There really isn't any innovation to speak of or patent protection. And, a high PE is just a high PE. Were you investing in the 90's when people said that PE's didn't matter any more?
I won't touch AMZN as an investment with a ten foot pole because it's stock price action is determined more by investors sentiment than anything else. The massive profit promised at the end of the rainbow may or may not realised. But their business has no competition because the amount of capital necessary to build up to the scale that they are. This is an article on 2010 denial of service attack on Amazon network and if fail miserably because AMZN build their network to handle xmas shopping session and the DOS attacker cannot muster enough computing power to the table. The question is who else have enough money to build such a computer and physical distribution network and also has enough business to pay for ongoing maintenance and upgrade? The answer is no one..
