Just because the US is not as pure and righteous as it likes to portray itself, doesn't mean that isn't a benign force on the planet, compared to other countries' foreign policies - actual, not rhetorical, that is.

We may be hypocritical, but we're strictly bush league compared to France. Witness M. Chirac's current touching solicitude for Iraqi self-government and financial transparency - he who favored Saddam, bribed Saddam with millions, wanted sanctions lifted, cared only about French oil contracts, and didn't give a damn how many Iraqis died or what terrorists Saddam financed.
