U.S. Robotics and QUALCOMM deliver support for Eudora Internet E-mail with best selling PalmPilot Professional connected organizer
MOUNTAIN VIEW, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--June 2, 1997--U.S. Robotics(R) (NASDAQ:USRX - news) and QUALCOMM(R), Inc. (NASDAQ:QCOM) today announced that the award-winning U.S. Robotics PalmPilot(TM) Professional connected organizer now supports the latest version of QUALCOMM's Eudora(R) E-mail software, the most widely used e-mail application on the Internet. PalmPilot owners can now easily send and receive messages and manage their Eudora E-mail in-boxes remotely using PalmPilot Professional's e-mail application.
Eudora E-mail software support is available immediately for Microsoft(R) Windows(TM) versions of Eudora Light(TM) 3.0.1 and Eudora Pro(TM) 3.0.1. Eudora product upgrades and new product purchases can be made easily by visiting the Eudora Web site at eudora.com . To take advantage of Eudora E-mail, PalmPilot users must have a PalmPilot Professional, or PalmPilot Personal, Pilot 1000 or Pilot 5000 with the 1 MB Professional upgrade.
With Eudora E-mail connectivity, the PalmPilot Professional organizer provides an ideal remote access solution for the largest sector of the Internet e-mail client market. As shown in a recent study by The Research Spectrum, Eudora E-mail is the leading e-mail software brand on the Internet. Eudora is the brand used most often by more than 18 million e-mail users worldwide.
``Fast and easy remote e-mail management is a necessity in today's increasingly mobile enterprise environments. By supporting Eudora E-mail with PalmPilot Professional, we are providing a key solution for businesses requiring maximum connectivity for their mobile workforces,'' said Ed Colligan, vice president of marketing of Palm Computing, Inc., the subsidiary of U.S. Robotics that designs and markets the handheld computers.
The PalmPilot e-mail application allows Eudora users to create new messages, reply to or forward messages, and manage the contents of their desktop mailbox remotely. To send or receive new Eudora E-mail messages, users simply use HotSync(TM) technology to synchronize their PalmPilot Professional either at the desktop or remotely via modem synchronization or the soon-to-be released Network HotSync. At the touch of a button, the PalmPilot's mailbox is intelligently synchronized with the desktop mailbox.
``PalmPilot is an ideal platform for Eudora E-mail users who need fast and easy access to their e-mail from anywhere, any time,'' said Jeff Jacobs, vice president and general manager of QUALCOMM's Eudora division. ``By working with U.S. Robotics to provide PalmPilot connectivity to our widely embraced e-mail software, we can offer a Eudora e-mail solution to the largest community of handheld computer users.'' In addition to Eudora E-mail, PalmPilot users can synchronize their e-mail with Microsoft Mail, Microsoft Exchange, Microsoft Outlook 97, and Lotus cc:Mail.
The family of PalmPilot connected organizers, designed as companion products to personal computers, enables mobile users to remotely manage their contact, scheduling, and personal information as well as e-mail. The PalmPilot is based on the Palm Operating System (Palm OS(TM)), a handheld computer operating system platform that enables low-cost, low-power, small form-factor devices to integrate seamlessly with desktop personal computers. The Palm OS features highly efficient operating system software for the handheld, and HotSync, the desktop software that manages synchronization of the handheld and the PC.
PalmPilot is distributed through leading consumer electronics and office supply stores nationwide, including Circuit City, CompUSA, Computer City, Egghead, Office Depot, OfficeMax, Staples, and other fine retailers. In addition, Franklin Quest offers the Franklin Electronic DayPlanner, which incorporates the PalmPilot with Ascend '97 software, and is available at Franklin Quest retail outlets and directly from Franklin Quest. |
