Mighty popular in his own country for a "dictator" who actually follows the law as duly passed there, as opposed to what's going on here, where our President* is an extremist by his own admission, since he is NOT holding views or doing deeds with the support of even a plurality, much less a majority, of the electorate, and that's on top of flouting the Laws he swore to ensure were faithfully executed.

Who banned all opposition parties including those already sitting in Parliament, jailed all political opponents, shut down or nationalized all media, all BEFORE Feb 24, 2022?

And yet Pooootin showed incredible restraint, initially only making sure that the >90k Nazi force massed against the Donbas could not go ahead with its planned pogrom, and publicly stated they would leave formal Ukraine territory (which does not include Crimea) as soon as Z and his corrupt oligarchs and Nazis agreed to honor their commitments in the Minsk Agreements.
Climbing on their Net Zero high horse, and then the higher horse of Moral Outrage that led to insistence that no negotiated end to this war would be allowed in March, nor in April, nor since, the EU and USA made sure this war would happen and made sure it would drag on and on and get wider and wider.
Now Pooootin can't leave, or the entirety of ethnic Russians would be targeted and slaughtered or slaved by the Ukrainian Stasi - which, btw, was was was being set up by Ukies as they amassed >90k troops on the border of the Donbas right up to Feb 24, complete with gobs of NATO weapons and gobs of NATO "advisers" and NATO-trained military.
I'm very sorry for the people of Ukraine, and for those in Europe suffering as the result of this absolute travesty and lack of statesmanship on the part of the West. Putin tried for years to negotiate an end to that NATO crap and a stop to the harassment of ethnic Russians in Ukraine. Do these Western leaders care at all about their own people? Obviously they care not a whit for Ukrainians, whether Western or Eastern.
