Unrelated. I say "be right" because it is a very short way to say: Have your facts straight. Those that you don't know to be fact - say something to indicate uncertainty or opinion.
This maxim is restricted to things that are or can be presented as fact. The Civil War was fought over principles, which are not the province of the maxim. "Be right" has to do with jeopardy, crossword puzzles, math homework and science papers. It cannot imo be applied to arguables like philosophy.

"Be nice" is not the same as "accept". If someone violates maxim #1 and I have correct facts to offer, I can do so nicely. If someone attacks something I value, I can speak against that assertively and still avoid speaking contemptuously or insultingly. One can be strong, a champion of one's values, a warrior ... and still be decent, civil ... nice.
