Jeff, thanks,
your hitting the mark exactly, in my opinion. but there seems to be a great contest about this "stragetic positioning" among those at the top of SGI. i seperate my investing decisions from my tool preferences and it makes life much more enjoyable. but since i'm so dependant on SGI for what i do 90 or so hours a week, i feel it is responsible on both counts to voice my perceptions. last month a developer friend (Tom Benoit of Interactive Effects} wrote a movie player that plays 2K rez movies back at 24FPS on the Octane with the HiDef monitor. the crowd at NAB were stunned. some of the ASD folk expressed alarm. "your not supposed to be able to do this on less than an Onyx". hopefully, the new unified product structure will make this attitude history. with ATV upon us, we need to be able to work at higer resolution than video, and SGI has to be the clear choice for those working at these resolutions. Wintels, with their limited buffers can be dusted.
