| Informix Announces Industry Leading Java Database; Informix Cloudscape 3.0 Leading the Way in Distributed e-Business Applications
NEW YORK--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Dec. 7, 1999--Informix(R) Corporation (Nasdaq:IFMX), the technology leader in the software infrastructure for the i.Economy, today announced the introduction of Cloudscape(TM) 3.0, the latest version of its Java platform for distributed e-Business. Cloudscape has undergone extensive testing to earn the 100% Pure Java(TM) certification and is the most comprehensive implementation of Java database technology on the market. Ideally suited for Web-based applications like Internet banking and CRM, Cloudscape 3.0 is the first release under the Informix name since Informix acquired Cloudscape Corporation in October 1999.

"Cloudscape 3.0 represents the next step in building the Java strategy for Informix, and is setting the industry bar for Java database support," said Steve Weick, Senior VP and Group Executive, i.Foundation(TM) Business Group at Informix. "Today's announcement underscores our strategy to establish Informix as the technology and market leader in the rapidly growing area of distributed e-Business solutions." Combining Cloudscape with Informix Internet Foundation.2000(TM) provides customers, from start up Java ventures to the largest global e-Businesses, with an integrated platform.

Cloudscape 3.0 consists of the Cloudscape database management system (DBMS), Cloudsync(TM), for application synchronization and Cloudconnector(TM), a server framework for Internet connections to the Cloudscape DBMS. Available in mid December, Cloudscape 3.0 is the most robust, scalable, and feature-rich version of Cloudscape released to date. Optimized to work with Java applications, Cloudscape 3.0 supports Java(TM) 2, Enterprise Edition (J2EE) including, the JavaSoft(R) Java2 Database Connectivity(TM) (JDBC2) standard and the Java Transaction API(TM) (JTA). In addition, Cloudscape 3.0 offers higher performance than previous versions with greater functionality for enterprise environments. Cloudscape 3.0 can be embedded in single- or multi-user applications as a local data manager and provides all the advantages of Java, including 'Write once, run anywhere(TM)' implementation.

When combined with Cloudsync, customers using Cloudscape 3.0 can easily distribute their e-Business applications, making them more accessible and adaptable to the demands of mobile workers. "Informix excels at delivering solutions that combine the ease of use with the advanced synchronization needed for today's mission-critical Web applications," said Jim Bolton, Cloudscape General Manager at Informix. "Cloudscape 3.0 extends our technology leadership, making the Informix solution a compelling choice for customers and partners building next generation Web-based applications."

Both single-user and multi-user developer licenses will be commercially available beginning December 15, 1999. Developers can download a free 60-day evaluation trial of Informix Cloudscape 3.0 at cloudscape.com.
