“I also want to imply seeking the facts relevant to a discussion in which one wants to participate.

That is a default position for many of us and I’m glad you consider it important.

“Warmers tend to be socialists and deniers tend to be to the definite right of the USA's civic spectrum.”

It might seem that way. The truth is that there is a middle ground that moves between both camps. Because they are thoughtful rather than extreme and dogmatic…they will not often have links grabbed by SI types…

“Almost all professional chemistry data, such as journal and patent searches, are bulkheaded behind members-only firewalls

I seldom pay to get that sort of raw data because it is seldom of critical import in my actual life. I have paid but it has never had anything to do with arguing crap on SI--obviously.

“I think more in terms of knowing and respecting the line between assertion and aggression, dissent and insult

Those lines are not fixed, so every person must make their own decision in their own situation --and they must make it several times a day. Circumstances alter cases.

To take an extreme example: when a killer is asking whether your daughter is hiding in the basement...you are not considering whether your response flirts with aggression!

And that allows me to digress, as I enjoy doing with intelligent people. What do we know? We interpret “reality” through our senses.

Let us consider only one..the eyes. We are born seeing upside down..or right side up--it doesn’t matter. We learn to interpret the INFORMATION that light carries into our brains.

First the light must grab that information (like a computer grabs digital data) and then it must be grabbed by us as it continues across the Cosmos. Can we be sure the light has not changed the source while interacting with it? Quite the contrary, I think. How do you get an interaction that is non-interactive??

So may point is that we cannot entirely know through our senses: We get altered data which we then contaminate with various filters of our ignorance and intelligence.

Well…back to Climate Change and the lack of available data without a tenured account. I studied (I mean followed it) pretty extensively for about a decade--but I just follow along now. I spoke to a world renowned climatologist about ten years ago. He told me there was no question about the FACT of AGW. All things have a cause or a number of causes--the cooling, the warming, the stasis. Humankind does not override other causes--but we are in there with them!

Unlike other causes…we have the ability to modify how our impact takes place and to what values they dress. That modification may be significant or it may not. But ostriches bury there heads (even if only metaphorically)--Intelligent people do not.

“If the former ... ok. If the latter

Actually, the latest research has shown that invisible tomatoes do as much for moral correction and saving souls as Dr. Kildare. They just don’t get chased by women.
