Hi, Skipper!! You could well have a camellia bush in your yard. The blooms don't look exactly like carnations, since the petals don't have all those little zig-zag points on them, and the whole blossom is very well rounded, as well as being a little larger than carnations.
However, I cannot think what else it might be, blooming now. Camellias don't really like intensely bright sunlight all day, although there is nothing you could do about that at this point, anyway, and they need a fertilizer that is heavy in ash. Miracle Gro makes a good one, that you just mix with water and splash on the plant. The advantage of this is that you will get tons of beautiful, huge blooms. The predominant colors of camellias are various reds and pinks. What color is yours?
It is a really good idea to cut the flowers and put them in vases inside your house. They last for days, are very colorful, and this also encourages more blooms on the plant.
Good luck!!! |
