CNN needs a special correspondent to deal with those "snake handlers."

CNN hires Faith & Values Correspondent

This is interesting. CNN has hired Delia Ghallagher as its Faith & Values Correspondent. Ghallagher had been a Vatican analyst for CNN for a long time before accepting this assignment. Based in New York City, Ghallagher started her new position yesterday by reporting on a Catholic diocese in Louisiana helping schoolchildred displaced by Hurrican Katrina. Quoting the release…

“Delia’s contributions about religion and religious leaders, particularly during the death and funeral of Pope John Paul II, stood out for their intelligence, sensitivity and depth,” Klein said. “Her hire as a full-time correspondent represents a major commitment by CNN to covering the religious revival in the United States, where tens of millions of people cite faith as a central part of their lives.”

As the faith and values correspondent, Gallagher will examine significant news stories through a religious perspective, including the Supreme Court confirmation hearing for John Roberts.

“I’m excited about the challenge to expand my reporting of religion across a multitude of faiths,” Gallagher said. “We recognize how influential American’s beliefs and values can be in business and politics and that journalists often ignore that fact. I hope my reports help fill the void.”

It will be intriguing to see how CNN uses Ghallagher and whether this is just the first sign of a major move into The Heartland for CNN
