Tenchu's Thoughts: Ukraine, Iran, and the Stupid-Ass Nuclear Deal

This is a wonderful article from The Atlantic:

Ukrainians and Iranians Have the Same Enemy. They Should Have the Same Ally. (msn.com)

Basically the author is connecting the struggle of Ukrainians with the struggle of Iranians. Ukrainians are fighting against the RuZZian regime, while Iranians are protesting against their own regime.

Both regimes are now allies in a fight against freedom. Both regimes are brutally suppressing human rights and killing scores of innocent people, all in the name of authoritarianism.

The connection between the war in Ukraine and the protests in Iran can and should be made by American officials, especially in Congress and in the Brandon administration, but no one seems willing to do just that.

A History of Regime Change

Now I can understand our reluctance to get involved in the protests in Iran. After all, we already tried two regime changes, both of which occurred in countries neighboring Iran. One ended up in an embarrassing defeat. (Thanks Brandon!) The other is still holding up for now. But who knows how much longer it can last?

Moreover, I'm not sure exactly HOW we can support the protesters in Iran, other than with the usual "thoughts and prayers."

A History of Negotiating with Terrorists

However, this part of the article was particularly alarming to me:
The only way I can think to account for this apparently willful misrepresentation of the new reality in Iran is that the Biden administration, which Malley serves, is more concerned with resurrecting the Obama-era nuclear agreement with the regime than acknowledging the Iranian people’s actual aspirations.
This tells me that there are signs the Brandon administration still wants to make a deal with Iran over nukes. That deal, of course, was a bad idea to begin with, and Trump was right in terminating it.

But whether one agrees with me or not, is NOW really the right time to keep hopes for the deal alive?

While Iran is undeniably supplying RuZZia with weapons to continue PooTin's war of choice?

While Iran is hiring thugs from Hezbollah in order to open fire on protesters?

While RuZZia is proving once and for all why nukes should NEVER fall into the hands of a TERRORIST regime?

Is Iran REALLY the kind of regime we should negotiate with, especially when their own people don't trust the regime anymore?

Look at RuZZia. We traded with them. We bought their oil. We built gas pipelines with them. Big brand names from Nike to McDonald's opened up stores there. PooTin might have been an asshole, but at least Russians were trustworthy enough to do business with.

All of that, unfortunately, fed PooTin's kleptocracy, which ultimately empowered him to go invade Ukraine. Even now with unprecedented post-Cold War sanctions, the PooTin war machine is still well-funded, if a bit lacking in basic supplies.

What makes ANYONE think that Iran is trustworthy enough to negotiate with? They're going to take the best parts of any deal and fail to live up to their own obligations, just like they did with the Obama agreement.

"But but Tenchu, we're helping average Iranians!"

Yeah right. The so-called "moderates" within the Iranian regime will still be suppressed, and the deal with do nothing to empower them. I still remember that was one of the motivations for the original Obama deal, to help empower those "moderates" by allowing Iran to re-join the international community.

Anyone who still harbors such a fantasy is, quite frankly, a dumbass.
