One of two things, Intel buys Alpha to kill it off... highly
unlikely with the FTC paying close attention and whatnot.
Or Intel buys Alpha to make use of it in one form or other.
If IA64 were/is so strong, they could easily ignore Alpha and
all other pretenders. But that isn't the case as 7 years of development
brings SpecInt numbers equal to the trailing CPU out there.

Intel needs the expertise and surely has to transition the existing
Alpha base to get everyone's approval.

Real interesting question would be what happens to EV8 as
it is very far along (according to Paul DeMone at Realworldtech
it was actually "done" 6 or more months ago, i.e. design).
