HI Da Rookie,

I think each company differs.

Usually the company likes to make a wise value oriented purchase - that way more stock can be bought.

I had a small company anen that all but went private buying up there stock. The a private equity firm bought out the remaining.

Nvls was buying back large blocks and Lrcx bought up the rest.

T seems to indicate that it repurchases its stock when it goes below 32.

One never really knows what the intentio is.

If a merger is involved then they accelerate the buyback to simply reduce the outstanding shares.

With the fewer number of public companies out there and those remaining doing strong buy backs - it is in general very supportive of a solid market.

Certainly makes shorting dangerous at the macro level - but then many stocks lose their business or get over priced.

Wish I had a more concrete formula but I'm not aware of one.

Bob
