One of the significant reform to social programs in recent memory has been the reform of welfare by a Democratic President. he was pressured by a Republican House and he worked with him to reform the program.

Now we are seeing a similar situation developing.

I wonder why the Republicans do not pressure Republican President to do the same. On the contrary they turn a blind eye and allow these programs to drain the Treasury. Isn't this politics? Have democratic President take them away so that it hurts his re election prospects and don't tough them during a Republican reign so as not to hurt the re election prospects?
