Joe, were you at the McDonnell Aircraft Corporation, during the time at Dave Lewis was President or after he left? If you were you probably can answer the following.

Why I ask: During the mid - late 80's I worked out at the Vic Tanny (now, Bally) Fitness Center, in St. Ann's, where the CEO of MAC worked out. He confided in me that he was in the process of implementing a "Quality of Work Life," program for MAC. He expressed that some of his middle management had difficulty implementing the program since they had been burned by the unions.

I asked, what procedure did you use to implement the program. His reply was interesting. He stated that he implemented the program of "Quality of Work Life, Quality Circles," by edict on middle management. First, the managers were given training in strategic planning, facilitating skills, and leadership styles. If the managers were not able to make the adjustments the managers were given the opportunity to retire. If they chose not to retire then they were booted to the high level of their abilities (Peter Principle) if the position was available. Those failing to make the adjustment or take the options were terminated.

Was this statement an accurate statement of what was taking place and was such a program implemented? I have alway believed the "Management style is what makes the difference," in achieving quality performance and products.

My moto: MANAGING FROM THE HEART - ASSOCIATE CREDO FOR MANAGEMENT:
(1) Hear and understand me,
(2) Even though you disagree, please don't make me wrong,
(3) Acknowledge the Greatness within me,
(4) Remember to look for my loving intentions, and,
(5) Tell me the truth with compassion.
Maybe, we on this site need to practice more compassion for others.
