there has been a secular bear market for the entire bush term. many individual investors have been wiped out, just look at silicon investor, I think these stupid politicians are surprised at the "up yours" reaction the public has to this. the public doesn't care about the stock market anymore. Tons of mutual funda have been FLAT this entire decade.

Having said this I hope the bailout passes because i think it is a money maker that will help pay down the debt.
