Albert did very well today but RayW is still underwater on his Intel short, hooray! Intel doesn't need defending because they will just blow the doors of AMD when the time comes. But AMD really has quite an opportunity to beef up existing architectures with the K6 provided it is indeed significantly faster and cheaper than Pentium. Frankly, Intel may decide to crush them with drastic price cuts.

I am not worried about AMD, I am worried about Sun and Java since there is no doubt that that environment represents a more reliable, more extensible and more robust platform than Windows. It isn't the Microsoft's and Intel's that decide these things, it is the developers who decide to write components and applications for specific target machines and they are moving toward Java in a big way. Once you have the critical mass of components and applications it's game over for the legacy systems.
