<Go ahead, pick on me. I've owned both MSFT and ANCR since about January 96. MSFT has gone up 3.5 times since then while ANCR has gone down 50%. Despite what Craig and others might state, NOTHING has changed. MSFT is STILL a GREAT company with strong growth prospects while ANCR is STILL a LOUSY company on the brink of bankruptcy. If anything, MSFT has gotten better and ANCR has gotten worse.>
Ed,
I, too, own both MSFT and ANCR, and hope to own both in 2002. I have different expectations for the stocks. I think the chances of ANCR going from $5 to $50 in that time are much, much greater than MSFT going from $140 to $1400. I also think the chances of ANCR going to $0 are much, much greater.
At this stage, I think MSFT is a Rod Carew - high on-base percentage, never a easy out, can steal home, but unlikely to empty the bases with a crushing home run. We hope ANCR will swing for the fences - like Harmon Killebrew - and bring us all home. Harmon was always more likely to strikeout than Rod, though. I want #29 and #3 on my team, but to compare the two as an either/or doesn't make sense to me.
I think everyone would agree that MSFT is the much safer stock. Some feel that ANCR offers higher possible reward. I've decided to own both.
Good Luck, Greg
P.S. I assume there is a MSFT thread on SI but I've never bothered to look. I think ANCR is much more interesting to follow, don't you? |
