"3. Why has not Kaiser Permanente ... put in an order for the machines?" Geoffrey Wren

Geoffrey, I know too many people who have not, in my judgement, received what I consider "top of the line" medical care from Kaiser. I believe Kaiser is a follower and will wait until their competition has a fully completed line of any new "SOC" before adding to their SOC.

Case in point, I had a friend who had colon cancer and received the SOC of colon resection and followup chemo. He was at the 5 year survival point when the cancer returned. His M.D. at Kaiser was ready to give up when Kaiser's SOC was for more chemo which was not working. Almost coincidentally Genentech got approval for Avastin. I asked him if he was getting Avastin. He was not. He later related to me that his oncologist did not know of Avastin's appoval, and my friend had a hell of a time getting Kaiser to approve Avastin for him. Unfortunately, the Avastin did not work very well, either, although it did extend his life expectancy a few months.

Note that Avastin is the antithesis of Hyperthermia.
Bevacizumab (trade name Avastin, Genentech/ Roche) is an angiogenesis inhibitor, a drug that slows the growth of new blood vessels.

I can give you other cases, but I believe Kaiser is only a follower and not a leader in medical care, so don't expect them to buy "top of the line" thermal ablation equipment very soon, even though they may know about it.
