An Intel networking design win:

SANTA CLARA Calif., Jul 18, 2001 (BUSINESS WIRE) Intel Corporation today announced that Netgear has chosen the Intel(R) Media Switch IXE2412 10/100 Device as a key component of its FS517TS and FS524TS Stackable Fast Ethernet Switches. The Intel silicon will provide the intelligence for Netgear switches, enabling the system to prioritize network traffic including voice or video that requires a quicker response time than other data traffic, such as email or web page requests. This type of multiservice capability is important to customers that are demanding higher quality of service.

"Netgear always uses the most reliable and robust chips to deliver powerful, highquality networking solutions for small business and home users," said Patrick Lo, president and chief executive officer of Netgear. "We have extended our relationship with Intel and chose the Intel Media Switch Device because it is a quality chip from a dependable source, with the scalability needed for our highend switch, all in a cost effective package."

"The choice of the Intel Media Switch silicon as the 'brains' of Netgear's Fast Ethernet switches allows them to deliver a highend product that alleviates bottlenecks in their customers' networks," said Tom Franz, vice president and general manager of Intel's Access and Switching Group. "In addition, the IXE2412's advanced development environment and software tools helped Netgear bring their Ethernet switch solutions to market more quickly."

The Intel IXE2412 is a singlechip, layer 2/3/4 switch/router solution that enables equipment manufacturers to design systems that deliver highbandwidth voice, video and data applications at wire speed. The IXE2412 will also enable users of the Netgear FS517TS and FS5F24S switches to scale their networks up to 224 10/100 Ethernet ports as their business grows.

Intel, the world's largest chip maker, is also a leading manufacturer of computer, networking and communications products. Additional information about Intel is available at www.intel.com/pressroom.
