Andy - re: "Intel says they will have 4 Fabs at 0.13 in 2001. This would be 20,22,D2, and what? I'm guessing Fab 17"

I would guess D1C is the fourth one.

Re: "Press release also says 2 Fabs in 2002 will come on line, both at 300mm. Sounds like Fab 12 has been slipped into 2003. Agree? "

Yes - even bringing two 300 MM wafer fabs on line next year is a bet - a bet that the demand arrives for chips made in these fabs.

If the demand does develop, Intel will be driving the gravy train !

Re: "Would they bother to convert a 200mm fab in 2003 to 0.13 or 0.10 without also going to 300mm?"

Sure - if the demand is there.

The cost of upgrading to 0.13 from 0.18 is a few hundred million - vs. maybe close to 800 Million - 1 Billion for 300 MM.
