I agree that the yields on SOI in a high volume environment is a big question mark, and AMD is taking a gamble.

However AMD did take a big gamble with Dresden on Copper. Given the erratic performance of the Austin Fab on a conventional process, the Dresden gamble looked desperate. However Dresden's performance has been AMD's savior. So AMD is willing to take another gamble and is hoping for another Dresden miracle.
