Thank you for pointing out the over simplification, which is meant to be the future direction of owning the seismic data for all the survey companies. It is a summery of the Houston Chronicle story on seismic firms, which Eagle Geophysics is mentioned among others.
Seitel's 3 dimensional data capability is unique and as mentioned in my prediction that old data may be able to use enhanced engineering data model with cored geophysically mapped samples to simulate in larger computers than what Eagle might be using today. Because of the data generated by specific computer application software, Eagle should own those data that they processed, unless customer may want to take possession of it.
It is my believe that the core of the earth yields gas and later condensed to oil. Some may even dried up to very heavy grease. Some under bed rocks will never be explored, because of the difficulties of reaching the well.
But someday all of the places on earth will have mapped sound data to understand structure and oil, gas, air or water cavities or mineral mines, to predict plate shifts and earth quakes and to establish just plain resources of all kinds.
Eagle is just one seismic survey firm.
