Frank: I don't find your y2k argument convincing. In fact, it could be just the opposite of what you say. At this time it may well be too late to scrap your legacy mainframe. Do you realize what an undertaking that is? Everything has to be redone. All the staff has to be retrained. All the custom code must be redone in the new format. All in two measley years. And you better be damned sure it works cuz you mainframe will not be a backup for you.

Look at the problems Oxford Health and Union Pacific are having. In the former case it is a new computer system that just ain't a'workin' properly yet; in the latter case, it's the incompatibility of different computer systems after a merger that has caused UP railcars to be stranded across the country.

It's possible that in 1999, LSSI's business will decline dramatically because of y2k. Just a thought ....
