Mesirow Financial Inc initiated coverage of HARLEY DAVIDSON with a buy
rating based on expected earnings growth resulting from "tremendous demand."
Mesirow set an estimate for the company's earnings in 1997 of $2.24 a share,
versus actual 1996 earnings of $1.90. Mesirow cited Harley-Davidson's ability
to charge a premium price for its motorcycles thanks to its "visceral appeal," and
the company's expanded production capacity expected by mid-1998. (Reuters
