WALK has now become a Y2K "play" as I stated on 12/25. Here is the Release: This "development" will give WALK the "sexy" strut it needs to get to a mush higher level.

I am also going to start a new thread w Y2K in it so that those looking for such plays, can find WALK.

Walker Debuts Low-Risk, End-to-End, Year 2000 Service Solutions;Company melds own world-class, Y2K-compliant financial applications, experience integrating broad range of enterprise applications, with leading Y2K tools from Viasoft

SAN FRANCISCO--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Feb. 19, 1997--Walker Interactive Systems, Inc. (NASDAQ:WALK), the premier supplier of enterprise financial solutions to the Global 2000, today introduced end-to-end Year 2000 service solutions for mainframe financial business systems, that minimize risk and cost by leveraging existing infrastructure.

The company will offer its services to both Walker and non-Walker customers.

Incorporating industry-leading tools from Viasoft, Walker's new solution services encompass year 2000 assessment, fix-or-replace analysis, planning and implementation. Walker provides a single source for best-of-breed year 2000 solutions for the financial systems of large companies -- including replacement of existing financial applications without replacing infrastructure. All of Walker's Tamaris C/S enterprise client/server finance and administration applications are year 2000 compliant.

"Financial applications form the core of any business. Transactions originate from many systems but most end up in the general ledger. Using our combination of financial and technology expertise, we approach the year 2000 issue from the general ledger out to the feeder systems," says Darrell Trimble, Walker vice president of marketing.

"We have both the products and services to replace or fix non-compliant, financial-related applications. For example, we have global access -- internally and through our partnerships -- to a large pool of the industry's most experienced mainframe programmers." Problem Scope and Timing Gartner Group says "the year 2000 issue is the most challenging, resource consuming and business critical IT project in the history ofdata processing." Experts estimate that the short time remaining hasalready eliminated options which require replacement of technology infrastructure.

Unlike many enterprise application offerings, Walker's Tamaris C/S enterprise client/server financials leverage an organization's existing infrastructure. This means a Walker solution can be implemented within the remaining year 2000 window and can be implemented for a lower cost than solutions that require new infrastructure. Financial Application and Mainframe Experience are the Keys to Year 2000 Expertise Walker brings a unique combination of client/server and mainframe financial application experience to its year 2000 solutions. And because its customers are among the largest companies in a variety ofindustries, Walker has also compiled substantial experience integrating complex subsystems and Walker financial applications.

"Our experience combined with Viasoft methodology and tools allowus to provide a unique offering for those enterprises who require a low-risk implementation which moves them forward to next-generation applications within the year 2000 window," says Trimble. Viasoft Technology Walker's recently signed agreement with Viasoft, Inc. will furnish Walker year 2000 solutions with Viasoft's best-of-breed assessment and methodology tools.

Viasoft tools will provide resource estimation, application understanding and measurement, program editing, bridging, re-engineering, documentation, testing, debugging and system date simulation.

"Walker's extensive experience with enterprise applications touched by the year 2000 issue and their substantial programming resources for implementing solutions, make them an attractive candidate for our Solution Provider Program," said Frank Hill, director of Viasoft's services center.

"We examined many tool providers and Viasoft delivered the most cost-effective, comprehensive tools and the track record to back it up," says Trimble. Viasoft solutions have been utilized in government and in the finance, insurance, telecommunications, manufacturing, and utility industries worldwide.
