Hi Dave, the information processing and financial services are acknowledged to be among the biggest global growth areas for the future.
CGI announced its intention to set it sights on these areas and is executing flawlessly. Recall the acquisition of CDSL which really put CGI into the financial backroom processing big leagues, the Interac deal which enables CGI to support anyone wanting to put an ATM on any street corner in Canada, the partnership with Republic National which will be the first of many to avail themselves of CGI's Canadian presence, the recent acquisition of CIA Inc. with its financial and government expertise, the Desjardins partnership to handle multi-company payrolls and direct deposit processing, the growth into the US market with the Teleglobe purchase.
Regrettably I can't summarize all the related information posted here but each completes a piece of the vision. Even looking at today's release, you can see more foundation-building taking place - PWGSC handles all of the federal governments centralized financial management and processing systems such as paycheques, pension payments, general ledger, etc. etc. As I mentioned in an earlier posting, if they do a good job in converting for Year2000, outsourcing the whole operation (an ongoing trend in business anyway) is a logical future step.
Hope this helps. |
