I believe you mean Praseodymium doped floride amplifiers,
which have the benefit of working in the 1310 nanometer
band where most of the single mode fiber already functions.
Erbium Doped amplifiers function in the 1550 nanometer band
and thus require convertors when linked to the established
single mode fiber lines. These new 1310 amplifiers are
performing fine in the lab but have yet to be deployed. They
will be.
