You need to consider NT model, why no vendor is supporting virus remover at present. NT's security model prevents system level access. All the tools (Norton, MCAF) heavily rely on system level access to clean up viruses. (Writing a virus also should be as difficult on NT).
Anyway, a virus remover for NT is basically a rewrite of the product with a different approach.

On the side note, recent survey on removing Word macro viruses, SYMC detected all the tested viruses (10) and removed every one of them. MCAF was half succesful (I think 6) in detecting and removed 4 of them (again out of my memory)

As far as management, you are right. They are not concentrating on the real problem. They are trying to boost their earnings (temporary) by cutting jobs which is not the bottom line.
