I call them as I see them. If you recall, I supported the lack of floppy disk as I considered it more or less a non-issue. The 33.6 modem for an internet computer, on the other hand, is plain idiocy.
I agree. Look, we're talking about perception here, and Joe Sixpack thinks that a 33.6k modem is lame compared the latest and greatest, a 56k jobber. If Apple goes ahead and releases the iMac with a 33.6k modem, they're going to lose many sales because of it. It's just plain stupid, stupid, stupid.
As for Apple's contention that most ISP's only support 33.6k anyway, that's total hogwash. All of the larger ISPs in my area, and every national one I can think of support some form of 56k. For Apple to argue otherwise is pure foolishness.
I'm an avid Apple fan, and I've seen them make more than their share of fantastic blunders. Let's hope they wise up and put a 56k modem in there where it should be. |
