Christine,
"Sixteen a day are killed in gun accidents. Did you read the clipping from Del's newspaper in Texas about the child who was shot? Doesn't that affect you emotionally at all?"
I read Del's post. Didn't you see my response? I had the same thing almost happen to one of my kids.
Have you ever tried to determine how many people are saved each day by guns? Of course, it's a little harder to determine. For instance, my ex-wife once scared off someone who was trying to kidnap my 2 young sons, by displaying a handgun. Would they have been killed otherwise? It's possible, and thanks to that gun, I'll never know.
Coincidentally, I used that same gun just this past week, as insurance against a dangerous person who has been threatening my family. Although I ultimately found it to be unnecessary, it is not the first time I was glad to have it available.
I think you are either extremely naive about the dangers around us, and the inability of the police to protect us, or you are extremely lucky not to have found yourself in similar situations as I have. Or maybe you would just passively submit to the whim of a murderer, rapist, or kidnapper.
