DES MOINES, Iowa, Sep 14, 2000 (BUSINESS WIRE) --

CyberPro Processors Bring Broadcast Quality Video, High-Speed
Graphics, And Hardware-Assisted Transparency To DAVID(R) Platforms

Microware Systems Corporation (NASDAQ:MWAR) today announced that the CyberPro
family of streaming media processors developed by Tvia, Inc. (NASDAQ:TVIA) has
been integrated within Microware's Digital Audio/Video Interactive Decoder
(DAVID(R)) environment allowing designers of advanced interactive set-top boxes
and other information appliances to accelerate application development for
faster market release. Tvia's hardware enables Microware to more easily provide
a pre-engineered solution for integrating broadcast-quality video,
high-performance graphics, transparency, picture-in-picture (PIP), and blending
of video, audio, text, graphics, and animation.

"We're excited to be part of the DAVID(R) platform," said Mike Raghavan, vice
president of marketing at Tvia. "The DAVID(R) environment provides designers of
advanced Internet-enabled set-top boxes and other information appliances a
robust, reliable platform to get their consumer products to market quickly. With
the CyberPro processors' support within the DAVID(R) platform, designers get
instant access to broadcast-quality video, high-performance graphics and
advanced effects like transparency for displaying rich media content and
services."

"The addition of the CyberPro family of processors to Microware's highly
advanced digital TV software equals a superior design environment for rapid
application development," said Ken Kaplan, president and CEO at Microware
Systems Corporation. "It's an ideal platform for quickly building a wide range
of next-generation information appliances and set-top boxes."

Several major OEM's have begun to incorporate the technologies of both companies
in their designs for next generation interactive set-top boxes for personal
video recorders, video/audio on demand and Internet on TV. The recently
announced NXTV Inc.'s interactive hotel entertainment and communications center
will be integrating both DAVID(R) and Cyberpro into its system at the end of
this year at the Peninsula Beverly Hills Hotel, followed by the Hotel Bel-Air.

"We were looking for technology that would allow us to converge information,
entertainment, communications and commerce related services with TV," said James
Miles, President and CEO of NXTV, Inc. "Microware's partnership with Tvia was
the combination we were looking for when we were developing our interactive
entertainment and communication system."

Microware's DAVID(R) open system software framework is specifically designed for
digital consumer devices that are widely used in telephone, cable television,
wireless networks, small footprint devices such as pagers and advanced
telephones, and set-top boxes. Based on Microware's OS-9(R) real-time operating
system, the DAVID(R) environment provides a number of subsystems that simplify
and speed design for both appliance manufacturers and network operators.
Included are subsystems for graphical display, MPEG decoding and de-multiplexing
control, user interface networking support, uplink communications for head-end
systems, information inspection and routing, and local data storage for
nonvolatile memory.

Microware's OS-9(R) comes bundled with support for CyberPro processors and is
available directly from Microware Systems Corporation. The CyberPro family of
processors is shipping in volume and is available in production quantities
through Tvia.
