More will presumably be known about who knew what when, though I'm personally not all that concerned about it because I'm convinced that whoever was making decisions would have been moved not to offend Muslims for reasons both of political correctness and political expediency. (There are a lot of rich Arab-Americans.)

This is something of what I thought was interesting in that piece:

Just because the F.B.I. brass hats are presently computer illiterate, do they think the public is totally ignorant of the ability of today's technologists to combine government surveillance reports, names on membership lists, and "data mining" by private snoops to create an instant dossier on law-abiding Americans?

I think the new powers will inevitably be misused. I think there needs to be more oversight, more approvals obtained, but suspect that they have been designed without it to afford deniability at the higher levels of the administration.

I have no evidence of this, of course, even from my inside sources, who probably know but are very secretive, and anyway are busy praying like you wouldn't believe for optimum umbrella-placement. A test is being conducted to determine which denomination or sect's prayers are the most efficacious. This was my idea. You probably don't believe me, though.
